The benefits of reading are too obvious. Books help a child to step into other people’s shoes. The process of starting and finishing a book calls for patience and increases concentration skills. Reading books regularly enhances their logical thinking and imaginative skills. And when you read out a book to your child, it builds a bond and sets a good example too.
It improves language and communication skills. Therefore, it should be made an integral part of your children’s lives. Find out some of the books that every child should read during their school years.

The Accidental Secret Agent by Tom McLaughlin

This is the story of a boy, Kevin Twigg, who accidentally becomes a secret agent. Tom McLaughlin’s new book is funny, particularly for kids who daydream of being James Bond. Kevin finds himself on a dangerous mission for MI7. Writer and illustrator Tom McLaughlin’s The Accidental Prime Minister, the comical story of a 12-year-old who unintentionally becomes prime minister, is already a success. This book is entertaining and full of adventure.

The Uncommoners: The Crooked Sixpence by Jennifer Bell

This is the first book in The Uncommoners trilogy. Ivy Sparrow and her older brother, Seb are taken to a secret city called Lundinor, set beneath the streets of London. The forces of evil are closing in fast in a world where nothing is quite as it seems, and the duo must unlock a family secret or risk never seeing their parents again, who are being held hostage. It’s an exhilarating and enchanting story from a talented debut author. Everyday household goods get a whimsical overhaul in this fantastical world beneath the streets of London.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Part 1 & 2 by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany

Harry Potter fans were thrilled when this came out. It was launched so soon after the main series finished. And although the book has had mixed reviews, it is well worth reading. It includes all the magic and ingenuity you could possibly want. Although be warned: it takes a dark turn thanks to the time-twisting plot.

The Great Fire Dogs by Megan Rix

This is an engaging tale for animal lovers to read. The story focuses on two best friends, Woofer, who is a loveable stray dog working in the palace kitchen, and Tiger Lily, the spoiled pooch of King Charles II. Woofer finds himself in trouble and has to escape the palace, so Tiger Lily follows. It’s not long before a new danger emerges – a great fire is sweeping across London destroying everything in its path. Can these two brave dogs survive the blazing fire and make their way to safety?

Matilda by Roald Dahl

This was the last full-length book that Dahl wrote. Matilda is a little girl who is far too good. At age five-and-a-half she’s knocking off double-digit multiplication problems and blitz-reading Dickens. Even more remarkably, her classmates love her even though she’s a super-nerd and the teacher’s pet. In this unforgettable tale of Matilda, Dahl combines intelligence, drama and coolness under pressure in a breath-taking story where a child’s emotional truth is written impeccably.

How to Train your Dragon: How to Fight a Dragon’s Fury by Cressida Cowell

This is the last book in the How to Train Your Dragon series, which has sold over seven million copies in 38 languages. Its war between dragons and humans and readers finally get to discover what really happened to the dragons. Cowell addresses some big issues in this magical and mysterious tale that is bound to become a modern classic.
